Hike: Post Lockdown Gathering with your Bestest Gals hiking in Chawton

Updated: Oct 29, 2023

Unable to be in a position to all stay in Bolan, we opted for a day hike followed by a roast dinner. The last time we were all together was Christmas so we had a lot of catching up to do.

We chose to walk the 4 1/2 mile Jane Austen Trail from Chawton to Farringdon. For literary fans along the walk you can see Jane Austen's House Museum, Chawton House Library, St Nicholas' Church in Chawton where the graves of Jane Austen's mother and sister whom she lived with are found.

We started in Chawton, which is a picture box village of lovely cottages and thatches. The walk takes you across sheep fields, through copses, next to crop fields, through farmyard and churchyards, the lovely village of Farringdon and back to Chawton on the Meon Valley disused railway line. It was a great way to spend 2 hours with you best mates having the biggest of all catch-ups!

We treated ourselves to a roast dinner at the end of our walk at The Greyfriar country pub, which was the perfect end to the hike and our catch-up.

I'd love to hear about your walks, please comment below on your favourite walk in the UK!
